Leatherize Process
1. Harvesting
With a boat to scour through a river infested with water hyacinth.
2. Cut the leaves and roots
Prepare for thorough cleaning of the stalks.
3. Clean the stalks
Make sure insects and other river debris are cleaned off.
4. Drying
The stalks can be hanged and sun-dried or machine-dried
5. Scrape the fibers
The stalks are scraped by the fibers
6. Flattening
The stalks are flattened using a machine.
7. Stick stalks to fabric
Refining the stalks into a fabric-like material
8. Ironing
Fabric is ironed with the pasted dried plant sheet.
9. Anti-mold
Anti-mold preventive coat is applied.
10. Protective top coat
A protective top coat is applied after anti-mold layer dries.
11. Sewing
The plant leather sheet is then sewn on a fabric.
